Using Pants to Secure Clothes

When I travel with pants and a suitcase, I use the pants to encase the clothing going into my suitcase.  It works like this.  I line the bottom of my suitcase with my pants such that the top of my pants gets place against a bottom edge and the bottom of my pants go out and over the top edge of the suitcase.  I alternate sides so that they are kitty corner from one another.  For example, if I’m looking down at my suitcase and I have the top of a pair of pants resting on the top left bottom edge, the top of the next pair will align with the bottom right edge.  The pant bottoms will also be hanging over the top edge of the suitcase in opposite corners.  I continue to alternate opposite sides until my pants are all packed in.  To make this work, you would need at least two pairs of pants.  Once this step is done, I put the rest of my close on top of my pants.  When I’m finished with packing my clothes, I take the pant legs that are hanging over the suitcase and fold them back in so that they cover my clothes.  Then I secure the straps.  The advantages of doing it this way are as follows:

  • It keeps your clothes from moving around more so than just packing them in
  • Your clothes are protected from any other objects that go into your suitcase like blow dryers and personal care items
  • You get to squeeze in more clothes

Try this method the next time you pack, and you will be amazed at how well this trick works.
